ThyssenKrupp Robins Project in Qatar Nears Completion
For the past several years Washington Group International - Middle East (WGI) has been constructing a new sulfur prills handling facility as part of a project for the QatarGas and ExxonMobil oil refinery located just north of Doha, Qatar in Ras Laffan City.
A key part of the sulfur prills project is the stacking and reclaiming system. QatarGas and Washington Group International awarded the contract to provide the stacking and reclaiming system equipment to ThyssenKrupp Robins. The award covered the design and supply of two (2) portal-type traveling stacker/reclaimers. The two machines, shown below, will handle the sulfur prills inside a storage building.
The stacker/reclaimers are designed to stack at up to 700 tph and reclaim up to 1500 tph. Each of these huge machines has blades over 10 feet long. An incoming conveyor carries the sulfur prills up a tripper which is integrated with the ThyssenKrupp Robins machines. The prills are discharged through the boom, and the blades push the material uphill using the cone-shell stacking method. Reversing the blade travel direction allows the machine to pull the material back down when operating in a reclaim mode.
